MSCPH : Master of Science(PHYSICS)

Programme Type DEGREE
Mode Open Distance Learning
School School of Sciences
Duration 2 Years
Medium ENGLISH
Specialization PHYSICS
Description

The aim of this programme is to offer quality higher education at the post-graduate level in Physics to address the requirements of learners aspiring for a career in Physics like teaching, research in frontier areas and industry. In addition, in-service personnel looking for upgradation of knowledge and professional growth will be benefitted.

This programme and its courses are meticulously designed to enable you to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the fundamental concepts in core areas of Mathematical Methods, Classical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, Electromagnetism, andSstatistical Mechanics as well as Electronics, Condensed Matter Physics, Atomic & Molecular Physics, Optics, and Nuclear & Particle Physics. We will also provide adequate training in analytical skills as well as hands-on laboratory experience with experiments both in General Physics and Electronics. The course in Computational Physics will give you good exposure to important numerical methods and their implementations which will enable to carry out computer-aided investigations in the physical sciences. Our special elective courses in Nanoscience, Material Science, and Reactor Physics are designed to acquaint you with current developments in these exciting areas of physics research and also introduce you to the interdisciplinary nature of science in modern times and the vast scope of its applications.

Programme Objectives:

  • To build a comprehensive foundation in fundamental and advanced concepts in Physics;
  • To improve the analytical skills necessary for application of the Physics concepts in problem solving;
  • To impart adequate training in practical skills and provide hands-on laboratory experience;
  • To equip learners with skills to carry out computer-aided investigations in the Physical Sciences;
  • To enhance the understanding of interdisciplinary nature of modern day science through elective courses; and
  • To enable in-service personnel to upgrade their knowledge and skills for professional development.

NOTE:

Attending Laboratory courses at Learner Support Centre (LSC) is a compulsory requirement for this programme. Normally, Laboratory courses will be organized at your LSC. However, the University reserves the right to organise your Laboratory courses at some other LSC and you will have to attend the Laboratory courses there.
