The climate has always been changing since the earth was formed. Since the industrial revolution, a new era has arisen, the Anthropocene, in which human activities have become the main driver of global environmental change. Climate change is increasingly recognized as a critical challenge to ecological health, human well-being and sustainable development. Rising temperatures across the globe is a serious concern. India, which has pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2070, has already commenced work and made significant progress. Critical to our economy and growth, India is spearheading one of the most robust climate actions through multitude of programmes and National Action Plan on Climate Change which includes an ambitious programme for transitions to clean energy in the world. 

In this backdrop, the Post graduate Diploma in Climate Change (PGDCCC) Programme is designed to provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of the causes, impacts, and responses to climate change across critical sectors. The programme examines the interconnections between climate change and water resources, energy systems, agriculture, and disaster risk reduction, highlighting the challenges and opportunities for sustainable development. Through an interdisciplinary approach, learners will gain the knowledge and skills required to assess climate-related risks, develop adaptation and mitigation strategies, and contribute to building resilient communities and ecosystems. The programme prepares students and professionals to address emerging climate challenges through informed decision-making, policy development, and sustainable resource management.

Objectives:

• To expose the learners to the domain of climate change;
• To familiarize the learners with impacts of climate change on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems;
• To enhance the understanding of the relationship between climate change and energy systems, promoting the adoption of renewable energy and low-carbon development pathways;
• To analyze the impacts of climate change on agricultural systems and develop strategies for climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural practices;
• To build competencies in disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation planning, enabling effective preparedness, response, and resilience-building at local, regional, and national levels;
• To foster interdisciplinary approaches to climate change mitigation and adaptation, integrating environmental, social, economic, and policy perspectives;
• To encourage the application of climate change knowledge to real-world challenges, supporting sustainable and resilient communities and ecosystems.
